In a serious note to bring down high mortality rate and combat the decreasing number of anesthetists, the Union health ministry has decided to include anaesthesia in MBBS Program. In this regard the ministry has decided to launch an 18 week competency enhancement programme in all government run medical colleges. Through this program MBBS student will be trained to assist in short-term emergency obstetric care.
This programme is to be entirely financed by health ministry, which will be started from January 1, 2006. The programme will cost Rs. 66,000 per doctor. The health ministry sources said a formal notification will be sent to all hospitals and all state health ministries by the end of this week.
