The National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT) was directed by the Delhi High Court to file a detailed reply to petitions demanding deletion of specific objectionable portions in the history books for classes VI XII.
The decision came after freedom fighter Shymadev Prasad Arya and Arya Jat Mahasabha filed separate petitions in this regard in Delhi High Court. The petitioners in their plea said that the history books of NCERT put Jat and Brahmin community in a bad light. These books describe Jat community as plunderers and Brahmins as beef eaters. Hearing the petition of freedom fighter Shymadev Prasad Arya where he alleged that certain history books described Bal Ganga Dhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal and Lala Lajpat Rai as terrorist, the court said, We should not assess our freedom fighters from the eyes of the Britishers.
