In an endeavour to provide access to professional education to the underprivileged but meritorious students, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) is initiating a special scholarship scheme from the coming academic session. According to K K Aggarwal, vice chancellor, GGSIPU, The education of the exceptionally poor students of the varsity, who prove their merit as well as inability to pay for their course, will be financed from the universitys Students Welfare Fund. A corpus amount of Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for this year. The scholarships will be available for not only the students of the universitys Schools of Studies but also for those studying at the affiliated institutes.
At present, only the GGSIPUs Schools of Studies offer three entrance scholarships to meritorious student of each discipline, based on their performance in the Common Entrance Test. The scholarship worth Rs 10,000, per annum, are provided during the entire course of the programme undertaken by a student, provided he/ she continues to secure a minimum of 60% marks in the semester exams. The entrance scholarship and other prizes that a student can obtain, can almost lead to a 50% concession in fees, informed Aggarwal.
