The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), an organisation for the promotion of academic and scientific ties between Germany and other parts of the globe, has nominated 27 Indian academicians to take charge as ‘Honorary DAAD Advisors’ for the period 2006-09. They were recently honoured for their outstanding commitment and leadership in promoting Indo-German relations in education and research, at a felicitation ceremony at the German Embassy. The new German Ambassador to India, H E Bernd Muetzelburg, handed certificates to the Honorary Advisors to mark the formal beginning of their tenure. The creation of this new network comes in the wake of the recent visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Science & Technology minister Kapil Sibal to Germany and the mutual desire of both countries to foster bilateral ties in education, science and technology.
