New courses from National Institute of Fashion Technology

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in keeping with the ever-growing fashion industry has launched numerous short-term courses and two comprehensive postgraduate programmes.

The 48 Continuing Education Programmes “are intended for people already employed in the fashion industry as also for students pursuing graduation. The duration of these programmes range from one month to one year and are based on the demand from the fashion industry. The programmes include fashion clothing technology, graphic designing, fashion retail management, CAD for textiles, IPR in fashion business and fashion styling, among others. All the Continuing Education Programmes are research-based and have evening classes and act as specialised training programmes. The fee for these courses range from Rs 8,000 for a month-long programme to Rs 90,000 for a one-year programme.

The postgraduate programme in Design in Fashion Space is a full-time two year course and admits a total of 20 students. This programme deals with the demand that has existed for graduates in fashion to have a Master’s-level programme. The space refers to creativity and the course specifically deals with the creative aspect in fashion items.

NIFT has also introduced another Master-level programme in Enterprise Management in Fashion Business. This course is designed to provide expertise to owners, entrepreneurs, middle and senior level business managers and decision-makers in the fashion industry. It aims to build a strong professional foundation of technical and managerial skills. This course is unique as it also provides children of owners of fashion houses an opportunity to add to their parents business. The 18-month long course will give 25 students global exposure by providing students with international visits and includes an internship abroad. It also brings in inputs from leading experts of the fashion industry and academia both nationally and internationally.

Admissions forms for the new courses are available at the NIFT campus and are open for admission till July 30,2006.
