Information
The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) will conduct a workshop on Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Examination (EAMCET), at the Andhra University Assembly Hall here on Sunday.

This is the fifth in the series of the workshops being conducted by the APSCHE to elicit opinions and views from a cross section of people whether to continue EAMCET in the present format or effect changes, the AU Vice-Chancellor, Y.C. Simhadri, said at a press conference here on Friday.

The APSCHE formed a high-power committee with the former Vice-Chancellor of JNTU, P. Dayaratnam, as its Chairman, and the former Vice-Chancellor of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, I.V. Subba Rao, the former Vice-Chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences, G. Shamsunder, the former Director of Collegiate Education, T. Venka Reddy, and the former Principal of St. Francis Degree College, Hyderabad, as members to prepare a report.

Participants would be asked to discuss points like time of examination, whether to hold it immediately after Intermediate examination, model of the question paper, etc. The committee was asked to submit its report in six months and its recommendations would be considered for EAMCET to be held in 2006. while the EAMCET-2005 would follow the existing pattern.

More candidates

The number of candidates appearing for EAMCET was more than the 68,000 seats available in the 250 engineering colleges in the State, he said. Last year 1.74-lakh candidates appeared for the test compared to 1.62-lakh in 2003. There was a slight decline in the number for engineering stream last year while an increase was observed for the medicine stream because more medical colleges started in the recent past.

Prof. Rao said every participant would be asked to give their opinion.

Workshop schedule

Following is the workshop schedule on Sunday: From 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. for students, parents, teachers and their organisations, from 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. for students organisations and from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the professionals, professional bodies, managements of the colleges and public.
