Lectures: The Prasaranga of Gulbarga University organised 20 extension lectures in several villages of Gulbarga and Bidar districts recently on issues ranging from the day-to-day health problems faced by the people to more serious issues such as the functioning of coalition governments and social movements.
The Vice-Chancellor, V.B. Coutinho, while appreciating the initiative taken by the Prasaranga said such programmes provided an opportunity to the people in the rural areas to understand the advances made in research, science and technology programmes and policies of the government.
An annual feature, the present set of lectures were the 68th and 69th in the series. They are held both in the morning and late in the evening to enable all to participate.
Some of the issues discussed were homeopathy and common diseases, backpain and relief measures, diabetes, problems of education in rural areas, women and divorce, coalition politics, social movements of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, labour laws, art and artisans in rural India, indigenous scientific knowledge, agricultural problems and finance, rural health and hygiene and Basaveshwara’s message for the 21st century. Experts from different colleges and universities delivered the lectures.
The Director of Prasaranga, Basavaraj Sabarad, coordinated the lectures.
Prasaranga has also published 25 books on literature, arts and culture, science and technology, history and social and developmental issues in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region this year.
