Information
All is set for the 20,894 students from across the country to take the Under-Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) for admissions to the management quota seats in private professional colleges. The UGET will be held across 36 exam centres in the State by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges in Karnataka (Comed-K) on May 1.
Nearly 54 per cent of the applicants are non-Karnataka students. Most of the centres – 22 of them – are in Bangalore, where about 72 per cent of the examinees are taking the exams. There are three centres in Mangalore and two in Gulbarga. We have arranged for a private security agency to provide security but have also asked the police to cooperate and help us at the exam centres, said Comed-K executive secretary Dr S Kumar. There is one exam centre each in Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bellary, Bijapur, Davangere, Dharwad, Mysore, Shimoga and Udupi. Exams in all four subjects – Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology are being held on the same day but students can choose between appearing for Maths and Biology. An aptitude test for admission to architecture (B.Arch) course is being held on May 7.
Seat selection
While the UGET is the only basis for admission to the management quota seats, seat selection and final admission is left to individual colleges.
As many as 15 medical colleges, 26 dental colleges and 42 engineering colleges are affiliated to the Comed-K now.
