AU to revert to four colleges

The Executive Council of Andhra University has resolved to revert to four colleges since there is no assent of the Chancellor, the Andhra Pradesh Governor, for the formation of additional colleges carved out from the existing ones.
The decision was taken at the Executive Council meeting here on Sunday, which was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, L. Venugopal Reddy.
The four new colleges formed were the College of Humanities and Arts, the College of Commerce and Management, the College of Social Sciences and the College of Pharmacy.
Four colleges
Following Sundays decision, the university will have four colleges: the College of Arts and Commerce, the College of Science and Technology, the College of Law and the College of Engineering.
The executive council approved the minutes of the selection committees, which conducted interviews under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). The other resolution was to improve infrastructure at the Tadepalligudem and Vizianagaram postgraduate centres. Science courses will be introduced after improving the facilities and till then only courses in Arts and Social Sciences will be offered.
IIT status
The council has decided to initiate the necessary steps for getting Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) status to the Andhra University College of Engineering (AUCE).
Appointments
Prof. Vengopal Reddy said the executive council approved the guidelines for the appointment of teaching associates in various departments.
The Commissioner of Collegiate Education, K. Lakshminarayana, the Additional Secretary, Higher Education, M.A. Quddus, the Secretary, Finance, Y. Ramakrishna, Y. Saraswathi Rao, G. Subrahmanyam, I.S.N. Raju, C. Ratnam, Teresa Cherian, M.K. Lakshmi and A. Rama Rao and the Registrar, M.S. Prasada Rao, attended the meeting.
