Information
Agitating students of Jadavpur University intensified their movement further on Wednesday even as Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee and the CPI(M) softened their previous stand on the police crackdown on the fasting students.

While the students continued their boycott of classes and the semester examinations, Mr Bhattacharjee told newsmen here that the government would shortly order an inquiry into the incident. He stopped short of expressing regret for the alleged police lathicharge on the fasting students on Friday midnight.

But the Chief Ministers assurance had little effect on the agitating students who have only hardened their stand and decided to bring out a massive rally in the city on Thursday. We are boycotting exams to protest against the authorities decision to bring the police inside the campus. They beat up students who were on a peaceful hunger strike, said Shubhodeep Chatterjee, a student.

According to Amit Chakraborty, General Secretary, FETSU, the students demand of the resignation of the vice chancellor and the registrar had watered down. He also denied that students had used filthy language against the VC and other officials and beat up some teachers earlier. Teachers of the university were mercilessly beaten up, even the controller of exams was not spared. The students should at least apologise, said Mr Rajat Bandopadhyay, University Registrar.

Some prominent theater and academic personalities visited the agitating students on wednaesday to exress solidarity over them
