THE VISVESVARAYA Technological Univeristy (VTU) has begun preparations for introducing online examinations in all its 110 affiliated engineering/technology colleges.
Recently, a meeting between the VTU Vice-Chancellor, K. Balaveera Reddy, Registrar, M.S. Shivakumar, and chairmen/representatives of managements of engineering colleges was held to chalk out a programme to create the infrastructure for the purpose.
To start with, Dr. Reddy has asked the managements to set up digital classrooms with computers and other installations to link directly with the satellite for round-the-clock internet connection. The VTU had already signed MoUs with major IT companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Sun Microsystems and Uni Graphic Solutions to ensure supply of computers and other equipments at concessional prices to set up the digital classrooms.
With the managements also showing keen interest in adopting the technology changes in their institutions, the VTU plans to introduce online examinations in all the colleges offering post-graduate programmes from the next academic year . The university has asked the managements to conduct online internal assessments for undergraduate programmes, which will help the students in acquainting themselves with the online examination system.
