National Talent Search Examination

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) awards 1,000 scholarships to talented students of Class X each year under the National Talent Search Scheme. A total of 150 scholarships are reserved for Scheduled Caste students and 75 for Scheduled Tribe students.

The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship and an annual book grant.

Students who are awarded the scholarship receive financial assistance up to the Ph.D. level for studies in social sciences, basic sciences and commerce.

Students pursuing professional courses such as engineering, medicine, management and law are eligible to receive financial assistance up to the masters degree level.

The selection is based on the state-level and national-level tests. Those who qualify in the State-level written test will be eligible to appear for the national-level test conducted by the NCERT.

The State-level test will be held on November 27 and the national-level test will be held on May 14, 2006.

Regular students of Class X in recognised schools from the states / union territories are eligible to appear for the state-level written test.

This test will consist of a Mental Ability Test (MAT) and a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). SAT will cover questions from sciences, social sciences and mathematics of Class IX and X. For more details,

M.SC. HEALTH SCIENCES

The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Elamakkara, (Under Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham), has invited applications for its entrance test for admission to the following Health Sciences courses.

M.Sc. Medical Biochemistry (3 years): Eligibility - first class B.Sc. Biochemistry/ Chemistry / Microbiology / Biotechnology / MLT

M.Sc. Medical Microbiology (3 years): Eligibility - first class B.Sc. Microbiology / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / MLT

M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (2 years): Eligibility - first class B.Sc. MLT / Biochemistry / Microbiology / Biotechnology

M.Sc. Medical Anatomy (3 years): Eligibility - first class B.Sc. in Zoology

M.Sc. Dialysis Therapy (3 years):Eligibility - first class B.Sc. with Zoology as main subsidiary subject or B.Sc. Allied Health Sciences or B.Sc. Nursing

M.Sc. Diabetes Sciences (3 years):Eligibility - first class B.Sc. or B.Sc. Nursing

M.Sc. Medical Informatics (3 years):Eligibility - first class B.Sc. in any field of Medical or Informatics Technology

M.Sc. Allied Health Science (Physician Assistant)(Three and half years):Eligibility - first class B.Sc. Chemistry / Microbiology / Biotechnology / Zoology

B.Sc. Medical Radiologic Technology (BSc-MRT) (4 Years):Eligibility - first class Plus Two in science subjects.

PG Diploma in Cardiac Catherisation Technology (3 years): Eligibility - first class B.Sc. preferably in Physics

Application can be obtained by sending a demand draft for Rs. 360 in favour of AIMS Cochin, along with a request letter to the Manager, College of Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Elamakkara, Kochi - 682 026.

Applications are available till June 30. The last date for receipt of applications is July 5. The entrance test will be held on July 10.

SIA SCHOLARSHIP

Singapore Airlines is offering scholarships for two-year pre-university courses in top junior colleges in Singapore from January 2006.

The scholarship will provide for a maintenance allowance of $2,400 a year with hostel accommodation, settling-in allowance, subsidised medical benefits, school and examination fees and return economy air passage at the beginning and end of the scholarship term.

Students who are Indian nationals completing Class X this year are eligible to apply.

Applicants should possess an outstanding academic track record (at least an average of 85 per cent marks / higher grade)with English as the first language in Class X. State/ national examinations.

Short-listed students will be invited for a selection test in India in September 2005.

The last date for applying is July 18. Application in the prescribed format has to be sent to SIA Youth Scholarships, C/o Robinson Road, P.O Box 746, Singapore - 901 446, Republic of Singapore.
