Information
Six activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI) were injured in police lathicharge when they tried to disrupt the entrance examination conducted by the Engineering Colleges Management Association at MEA Engineering College, Pattikkad, near here, on Sunday.

About two dozen SFI students tried to enter the college compound as part of a State-wide protest against the conduct of a separate entrance examination for admission to the management seats.

Our Staff Reporter writes from Kozhikode:

Activists belonging to the All India Students Federation (AISF) and Students Federation of India (SFI) tried to disrupt the conduct of entrance test to self-financing engineering colleges in the State held here on Sunday.

The examination was conducted at AWH Engineering College, Kuttikattoor and KMCT Engineering College at Kalanthode in the district.

However, students were able to take the examination without any disruption. Heavy police protection was provided for the conduct of the examination.

When the examination started in the morning, 15-odd AISF activists, shouting slogans, tried to enter the AWH Engineering College where the examination was going on. The police team present used force to prevent them from entering the examination hall.

AISF State unit Secretariat member Binu Isaac was injured in lathicharge.

Nine of the activists, including Mr. Isaac, party State vice-president P. Gavas and district secretary A.B. Binoy were arrested and taken to Maloorkunnu police camp. They were released later. Seventeen SFI activists also tried to enter the examination venue at the AWH Engineering College. They were arrested and removed by the police. The arrested included SFI district secretary P. Nikil.

Thirteen SFI students, including party district president P.M. Viju, who tried to disrupt the entrance examination held at KMCT engineering college, were also arrested. They were released later.

Our reporter adds from Kannur:

Activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI) disrupted the common entrance test at the Sree Narayana College of Engineering Technology at Korome, near Payyannur, on Sunday.

The SFI activists, numbering around 30, entered the college campus as part of the State-wide protest against the entrance test conducted by the managements of the self-financing engineering colleges. The police deployed on the campus resorted to caning to disperse the protestors, led by SFI district secretary A.N. Shamseer. The police said the SFI activists smashed a glass pane of the college building.

Postponed

The college authorities decided to postpone the examination following the protest and subsequent police action. The police also arrested 18 protestors, including Mr. Shamseer.

Protest against the entrance examination was also held at the Vimal Jyothi College of Engineering at Chemberi here. The examination, however, was not disrupted. The police arrested 10 SFI activists from the campus.
