It is all about technology at Delhi University this admission season. Even as the big race for a good seat keeps students busy, colleges are gearing up to make the coming session as techno-friendly as possible.
Joining the bandwagon now is Deshbandhu College which is going in for a complete office automation for the admission process. Although it is accepting only forms and not fees, the process for making the complete admission process computerised is already on.
The entire admission process is being computerised. Right from making the documentation of fee payment computerised to keeping computerised records of faculty salary and leave, we are planning to make office working completely computerised to make it easier, says the Deshbandhu College Principal, A.P.Raste.
But that is not all. The college is also planning to computerise records of internal assessment, so that students have easy access to their markings. It is not easy to manually maintain all the college records. We have over 2,000 students in our college and maintaining individual data is no easy job. But this will make it easier, adds Dr. Raste.
Campus placements will be yet another highlight of the college this year with Deshbandhu planning to focus on career counselling. We had introduced the concept last year and it was a huge success. Six to seven corporate companies had conducted campus interviews in our college last year and the response was really good. Nearly 20 of our students were picked for a starting salary of Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 per month, he adds.
The Apeejay Institute of Business Studies is introducing four new industry-based programmes this year. Located at Gurgaon, the Institute is offering admission to Business Process Outsourcing, Banking and Retail Finance, Retail Management and Software Engineering. All the courses will begin from the coming academic session.
Aimed at helping fresh graduates upgrade their knowledge in specialised areas and get an early career start, the fast track niche programmes range from nine-month modular courses to 18-month programmes.
The nine-month modular course will help students equip themselves for a successful career in BPO, with students getting the choice to either complete a module and go for a job or continue other modules like an advanced certificate programme and diploma in BPO.
Focusing on the retail finance sector, the advanced diploma in Banking and Retail Finance is spread over two semesters of six months each, while the Advanced Diploma in Banking and Retail Finance will provide students with an in-depth understanding of the sectors changing dynamics with a special emphasis on mutual funds, insurance and directives governing the sector. Students will also be prepared for qualifying certifications of the National Stock Exchange, which are mandatory for employment in these sectors.
The Advanced Diploma in Retail Operations Management will work on developing the classic marketing management specialisation. A year long, the programme delves into details of retail management ranging from fundamentals of marketing to retailing, merchandising, RIM, inventory management and international retailing.
The Institute will also be introducing an Advanced Diploma in Software Engineering designed to provide students with a solid foundation and practical grasp of various aspects of algorithms and programme construction, real time and embedded computer systems and software engineering and design principles. The advanced diploma programmes are open to students with a bachelors degree.
