MYSORE: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has taken a technological leap to facilitate virtual counselling for students seeking admission to MBA and MCA programmes from the academic year 2005-06.
The VTU Vice-Chancellor, K. Balaveera Reddy, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the new system will obviate the need for students to congregate at one centre for counselling.
The project will later be extended for M. Tech programmes also.
He said the system is nothing but video conferencing from five counselling centres at Belgaum, Gulbarga, Davangere, Bangalore and Mangalore and will reduce the burden on students and parents, who otherwise will have to travel long distance for admission process.
BSNL to provide network
The five centres will have facilities for computing, seating, conferencing and all the counselling centres will be connected to the VTU headquarters in Belgaum by a high bandwidth, secure network provided by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited especially for the event.
The data related to colleges and seat availability will be made available at all the centres on real time basis.
