Information
The students of Taranath Government Ayurvedic College staged a demonstration on Tuesday, demanding the continuation of the postgraduate course in rasashastra.
In a memorandum submitted through the Deputy Commissioner, the students have expressed disbelief over the withdrawal of the course, which the college had been offering for the past eight years.
The popular course is said to be running short of qualified staff and was therefore withdrawn by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The students urged the Government to initiate steps to fill up the posts and ensure the continuity of the course.
The students also pointed out that though the college has sanctioned 45 posts for teaching staff, only 13 posts were occupied. Students demanded that the Government appoint lecturers on a contract basis for the college to resolve this problem.
They also urged the Government to take steps to start postgraduate courses in government-run Ayurveda colleges so that meritorious students from poor families will be able to afford these courses.
