Activists of Akhil Bharateeya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of Davangere unit took out a procession in the city, protesting against the decision of the Government to share seats with private managements in the ratio of 50:50. They burnt an effigy of the Minister of Higher Education, D. Manjunath, at the Gandhi circle.
They protestors submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding among others, the implementation of the Ranga Vitalachar report on fee structure and the sharing of seats in the ratio of 75:25 in engineering colleges and 65:35 in medical colleges.
The Students Federation of India (SFI) also staged protest and burnt an effigy of the Mr. Manjunath. The SFI alleged that the Government has joined hands with the managements of private colleges thus denying opportunities to meritorious students from poor families.
