Battalions of policemen, several police vans parked all around, high wooden and steel barricades. One part of the CET Cell is completely cordoned off. Women and male police personnel stand at all entry points. No parking around the Cell. Park far off, walk around Malleswaram 18th cross to enter the Cell. And all is set for CET counselling.
Seat allotment for admissions to professional MBBS, BDS and BE courses began amid tight security on Tuesday for students claiming reservation under special categories (physically handicapped, NCC and sports quotas).
Seat allotment will continue till June 18 as scheduled. Though seat selection for students of general categories has been put off indefinitely, seats chosen under special categories will hold good, CET Cell Special Officer D N Nayak said.
Disabled students
About 205 disabled students went for medical examination and counselling, of whom 41 were found not eligible for this reservation. All 12 MBBS and 2 BDS seats were taken up within hours, while some of the 123 BE seats went vacant at the end of the day.
The first disabled student to take a seat was Ravindra Mudiyannavara of Halemethi in Haveri. With his 1,017th rank, he chose a seat in Mysore Medical College.
The second student was Manojkumar B, with rank 1,080, who hails from Gulbarga and chose a seat in Bangalore Medical College. Both want to specialise as surgeons.
