Information
For the first time, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has introduced video conferencing with centralised seat allocation system from five counselling centres to reduce the burden on students and parents across the State.
The new facility will offer PGCET-2005 (Post Graduate Common Entrance Test)counselling services at five centres which have been chosen to reduce travel and stay for both students and parents.
Announcing this at a press conference here, VTU Vice-chancellor Dr K Balaveera Reddy said the five counselling centres will be located at Belgaum, Bangalore, Davangere, Mangalore and Gulbarga. They will have all necessary facilities such as computing, seating, conferencing etc, he added.
The VC said the centres will hold counselling for MBA and MCA programs from this academic year and will later include the M Tech programs. VTU will add more centres across the State later on to make the counselling service an easily accessible one.
Dr Reddy said all the counselling centres will be connected to the VTU headquarters at Belgaum, over a high bandwidth, high quality, highly available, and proven Multi Protocol Label Switching-Virtual Private Network secure, for which the network has been provided by BSNL especially for this facility.
The counselling for seat selection for under graduate professional courses would be conducted in some select centres besides Bangalore (at CET Cell) from the next academic year, Dr Reddy, who is also the chairman of CET Admission
