Students of MES College of Engineering, Pune will represent the country at the Microsoft Imagine Cup-2005 worldwide finals to be held in Yokohama, Japan in July 2005.
The National finals for the Imagine Cup, a global contest held by Microsoft to help students across the world, showcase their software development skills before an international audience, was held in Bangalore on Saturday.
Saurabh Jain and Gaurang Sinha of the Pune-base college emerged as the winning team for their application City pulse, a traffic management system using Global Positioning System.
The application allows motorists to call emergency services by the push of a button from their vehicles in the event of an accident or related emergencies.
The system alerts a central control system, which automatically notifies medical professionals in the vicinity, as soon as possible. The zonal finals for the competition were recently held in Pune, Delhi and Chennai and six teams were selected from across the country to participate in the national finals.
This year, Imagine Cup was open to school and university students and students from the other fields were encouraged to submit applications that addressed social issues.
