ARE YOU one of those who want to go beyond the realms of basic engineering courses and learn and discover more in this field ?
The Gifted Talent Nurturing Programme being introduced by the PES Institute of Technology (PESIT) aims to address the needs of students and others who want to look beyond the syllabus and develop an in-depth understanding of concepts in engineering.
According to the organisers, The course is specially designed for those who want to get a better understanding of concepts and want to build applications based on this. It looks outside the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) syllabus for B.E. and provides an edge over others to tackle non-trivial problems/projects in all streams of engineering. It can also be taken up by those who want to go in for higher studies in this field.
It enables understanding of different branches of engineering from the unifying framework of mathematical modelling of problems. Interdisciplinary problems may be addressed as and when the course advances. The instructors are experts in the field of engineering and guest lectures will be held periodically for specific topics.
Course outline
Module A: Mathematical foundations of linear systems: Vector Space, Subspace, Linear Dependence, Basis, Dimension, Some Basic Theorems, Linear Transformations, Rank, Nullity, Direct Sum Decomposition, Characteristic Polynomial of a Linear Transformation, Minimal Polynomial, Caley-Hamilton Theorem, Diagonalisable and Nilpotent Operators, Canonical Forms, other topics (inclusive of basic Probability Theory & Stochastic Processes) as and when required.
Module B: Applications and Extensions to Signal Processing, Control Systems, Image Processing, Neural Networks, Wavelets & Problems from other fields inclusive of, but not restricted to Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science and Biotechnology.
Module C: Hands-on sessions with MATLAB and other relevant packages (integrated with Modules A and B).
Eligibility
There will not be any screening by the institute. Students from all streams and all semesters of engineering interested in taking up the course are eligible. The pre-requisite is no more than what is expected of a student at the entry level for the first year of any branch of engineering. This course is open to faculty, students and corporate participants.
