ABOUT 100 students of the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering (JNNCE), Shimoga, bagged jobs in the campus selection for 2004-2005 conducted by software companies such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Robosoft, Wipro Technologies, DSLSoftware and Spicenet, according to the Principal (in-charge), R. Srinivasrao Kunte. Thirty students studying in the sixth semester were also selected.
Last year, MBA students of the college were selected by ICICI, I-Bank,Wealth Max, Sri Ram Insurance Company, Victory Associates and Karvy Consultants.
Certificate course
The Deshiya Vidyashala Samsthe (DVS) Arts and Science College of Shimoga, one of the leading educational institutions of the Malnad region, has introduced a Certificate Course in Dramatics from this academic year to mark its golden jubilee.
The course has been introduced in appreciation of the importance being given by the Department of Public Instruction to impart formal training to the in-service art teachers in primary and secondary schools.
Stagecraft will be considered as one of the priority subjects complimentary to Life Sciences in the recruitment of teachers hereafter, according to the College Principal, C.S. Nanjundaiah.
The course aims at tapping the innate talents in students and lays emphasis on practicals.

Special coaching
The Bangalore-based CHIPS IIT-JEE has offered to conduct special coaching in Shimoga for the CET from the current year, in collaboration with the DVS Arts and Science College.
Prof. Nanjundaiah said AIEEE, IIT and other competitive examinations will also be covered. The coaching session will be held on Sundays for four hours at the Singara Sabhangana of the college.
The chief of CHIPS-IIT JEE, Babu, said we give rigorous coaching for Board examinations of IIT, AIEEE and CET under one roof which enables students to face these examinations more confidently.
A total of 200 hours of coaching will be given in an academic year, apart from providing study material. This will include workshops, counselling and feedback sessions. Admission to the coaching classes is based on the performance of the students studying in II PUC in the test conducted by the organisers.
