The Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, K. Chidananda Gowda, said here on Wednesday that external environment could be clean only if internal environment is kept clean.

Inaugurating a seminar on Environment Day and the status of environment in the Malnad region at the Sahyadri Science College, he said that people who were arrogant could not keep their soul clean and also, it was difficult to expect protection of environment from such people.

He said environment in the city remains clean if everybody tries to keep his or her surroundings clean and added that the problem of clean environment gets solved automatically if environmental consciousness is developed among the people.

The Deputy Conservator of Forests, G. Javaramaiah, who was the chief guest, said the recurrence of drought and rise in temperature could be attributed to the wanton destruction of forest sand natural resources. He said everyone should be involved in the task of maintaining the eco system.
