Information
It is an opportunity for the common man to understand Vedanta in just 60 days. And the guru is a scientist-cum-teacher of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Generally people turn away when they hear the word Vedanta, saying it is the sphere of Sanskrit scholars. But Paramananda Bharati Swami, who was at IIT 16 years ago, will be in Mangalore to teach Vedanta for two months under the auspices of the Centre for Inter-Disciplinary Studies and Research in Sanskrit at Canara College here. The centre is observing its 10th anniversary year this year.

The centre will offer a two-month diploma course on the subject, said G.N. Bhat, director of the centre. Persons aged above 18 can enrol themselves for the course, which will be offered at the college in two batches.

The morning session will be of an hours duration and begins at 6.45 a.m., while the second session begins at 6 p.m.

The guru has written a book titled Vedanta Prabodha, which will serve as the syllabus for the course. Classes will begin on July 21 and a minimum amount will be charged for the course.

The course, Mr. Bhat said, will be offered on an experimental basis. Depending on the response, the same will be recommended as a diploma course for Mangalore University.

The course will comprise elements from the Upanishads, the Brahmasutra and the Bhagavad Gita, which are used as basic reference works in modern Vedanta schools.

Durga Sanskrit Postgraduate Centre, Kateel, and Gokarnatheswara College in Mangalore, offer certificate courses in Veda Tantragamana.
