Bangalore Universitys course in Visual Arts identifies various aspects of art so that the past can be woven into the present and future
Vice-chancellor of Bangalore University Dr M S Thimmappa believes that education, without art education in the University (Bangalore), is incomplete. It is with this vision that the Department of Visual Arts was started in 2004. With the passage of time, the department endeavours to discover and rediscover the art world and its various forms besides plunging into the contemporary and avant garde trends which transcend the geographical boundaries and identify various aspects of art so that the past can be woven into the present and future.
Vision and mission
The department has two goals—the acquisition and dissemination of both theoretical and practical knowledge. The practicing artists and academics from the arts and related fields from across the country and abroad are invited to give lectures and participate in workshops. The University has constituted an expert advisory committee—comprising well-known artists, art historians, and academician, who would enhance the academic standards and encourage a drive toward bettering the arts practice in the country.
