Information
They may be old enough to take their own decisions, but there is one basic thing that a majority of students applying to Delhi Universitys School of Open Learning (SOL) just cant seem to get right – their address.

And with that emerging as the primary reason for a number of students never getting various notifications including their class schedules, SOL has now decided to use technological aid to ensure students dont get away easily. Currently undergoing complete computerisation, as per the new arrangements an application will not be accepted till the address is complete.

The matter has become of importance that the SOL prospectus lists filling the right address as the most important point to be remembered by students, adding that those who dont give their pin code will not get their printing material on time.

One does not expect children that age to make mistakes in filling up their addresses. But as we realise, a number of letters being sent to students were returned by the post office. In the beginning we could not figure out the reason. But in 90 per cent of the cases, it was neither our nor the postal departments fault. Because of this carelessness while filling up their address, the students end up on the losing side, said an SOL official dealing with admissions.

Computerisation being the buzzword here, SOL is now gearing up to give its students a new experience. From monitoring the number of admissions to the profile of his new students on the computer, the Executive Director of the School, H.C. Pokhriyal, says attempts are on to ensure support to students. The idea is to make sure students get high quality service. Now when a student comes to me with a complaint saying for example that he has not got the study material or admit card, I simply log on to my system and find out the position, he pointed out.
