Information
With the Directorate of Medical Education releasing the MBBS rank list several hours after scheduled time on Wednesday, it is clear that the cut off marks have dropped this year by at least 12 points for admissions to government medical colleges.
While the marks difference compared to last year among the top ranks has fallen by 5-8 marks, the gap widens the rank list and is as high as 12 marks.
Between ranks 91 and 500, the marks difference in comparison to last year is between 2.94 and 7.47.
If the Medical Council of India grants approval for Theni Government Medical College this year, as is being hoped by the authorities, the increase in the number of seats (100) will once again lead to a further drop in the cut off marks.
However, Mr.Gandhi said there is likely to be a good number of students (with 280 -285 marks) who did not anticipate the fall in cut off marks and thereby missed applying for medical seats. Studying the rank list, he said most students who did well in the higher secondary exam did not do well in the entrance test.
