India is headed for a shortage of labour in fields requiring specialised skills, said Nagesh Singh, president of American Higher Education (AHEd) in India. To counter it, AHEd has introduced post-graduate level programmes from Ivy League universities in America in the Academic, Engineering, Information Technology and Service sectors, said Singh.
AHEd inaugurated their India centre on July 5 in Gurgaon. It has collaborations with Columbia, Harvard and Boston among other universities.
Courses include a teachers training programme for qualified teachers in collaboration with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. It will be a certificate course costing between Rs 20,000 and 25,000.
More specialised courses in technology and engineering will cost anything between Rs 1-8 lakh.
These programmes will be mainly in collaboration with Columbia Universitys Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The centre at Gurgaon is equipped with facilities like video conferencing system, workstation, laboratory, class room, meeting room and library.
We will only provide the infrastructure and act as an extend arm of universities which require our help, said Singh. No fees will be charged by AHEd for their services or infrastructure. We have a tie up with universities who will bear the costs. So the students need to pay only to the university concerned for the training received said Nagesh.
