Counselling for medical, dental seats from today

Medical Education Minister Dr V S Acharya and Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy are scheduled to launch the counselling for medical and dental candidates on Monday at 9 am at the CET cell here.

Students who have scored ranks from one to 1,500 in the medical and dental streams will participate. The CET Cell is not considering marks obtained by students in pre-university examination for dental and medical courses.

According to CET Cell Administrative Officer Syed Jamal, the counselling is expected to go up to 7 pm.
On Friday, the Assembly had adopted the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Special Provisions Bill, 2006, which lays down the seat sharing arrangement and the fee structure. It was also passed by the Legislative Council.

As many as 990 medical (Rs. 35,000 for a seat) and 897 dental (Rs. 25,000 per seat) seats are available under the concessional category for 2006-07. When compared with last years seat matrix, the government will get 141 medical and 128 dental seats under concessional fee category, this year.

Under this, the SC, ST and OBC candidates will be offered 495 medical and 449 dental seats. The two categories will get an additional 70 medical and 40 dental seats under subsidised fee category this year.
