Indian businesses are going global. There are also global businesses operating here with large numbers of Indian employees. Both need to understand the way other countries conduct business and their approach to work culture.
The Department of Commerce, Bangalore University, has drawn up plans to start a new post-graduate course in International Business. The course has been designed keeping in mind the growing needs of multinational companies that require special skills from their employees; a combination of core knowledge and practical business skills.
The specialised skills executives in global businesses need include multicultural management, international trade and business environments, international financial institutions and markets, exposure to the World Trade Organisation protocols and other international trade regulations and documentation of international trade dealings. The MIB graduates as they will be called, will get, along with exposure to the way businesses are conducted in other cultures, greater opportunities to enter multinational organisations throughout the world. The two-year course will be divided into four semesters.
The course will be conducted with a mix of classroom lectures, group discussions, seminars, case studies, problem solving exercises, visits to international companies and guest lectures. The idea is to see that students get as much exposure to corporates operating in several countries.
Graduates who have passed bachelors or masters degree from any recognised university with a 50 per cent aggregate in grades will be eligible to join the MIB course.
Admission will be based on an entrance test conducted by the universitys Commerce Department.
