The Anna University (AU) has directed each of its affiliated colleges to adopt Higher Secondary schools in their locality to enhance academic excellence at plus two level. This is a move to overcome the large no. of vacancies in engineering courses that are rising due to poor performances at plus two level. The rise in vacancies has been 20,000 this year, which is a matter of challenge for the varsity.

The engineering colleges would offer their academic expertise and laboratory facilities to the adopted schools during weekends. The university would also look after the education quality at these higher secondary schools. According to the university official, nearly 35 affiliated colleges had admission level of below 50 percent.

However, the varsity has record in placements and performances of the students, about 95% of the students had secured placements and doing well. To keep up the academic excellence the varsity has many plans and projects in its hand. 70 engineering colleges have already availed the utility of EDUSAT for satellite link. The university would also permit foreign students for admission in recent future. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Nagoya Institute of Technology for mutual sharing of seminars and training programmes.
