M.B.A. course revived in varsity

With the objective of promoting professional management techniques that will ensure the optimum utilisation of available resources in the healthcare sector, the Department of Management Studies of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), in association with Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, has revived its M.B.A. (Hospital Administration) course from this academic year (2006-07).

The two-year course will focus on creating professionals, who will be able to ensure that quality healthcare is imparted and adopt a strategic approach to tackle inflation. It will also help the hospitals to keep apace with the latest advancements in medical technology.

Also, issues like promotion of indigenous medicines, avoiding unhealthy competition and blind adoption of western standards will be dealt with at length.

Split into four semesters, the first semester will deal with fundamentals of healthcare management, where the students will visit various types of healthcare organisations. In the second and third semesters, the students will undergo practical training in a hospital, where they will have hands-on training in operational management, patient care and supportive services. Training on 20 different functional areas of hospital management will be imparted during the course.

Graduates in all disciplines are eligible to apply for the course. Preference will be given for sponsored candidates with work experience in healthcare. The last date to apply is August 21 and admissions will go on till August 31.

Performance of candidates in the interview will be basis for selection for this academic year.
