14 nabbed over fake certificates14 nabbed over fake certificates Police on Friday arrested 14 employees of local hotel chain Sunbird Tourism Limited on suspicion that they possessed fake Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE). Fridays raid, carried out in collaboration with the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb), is aimed at flashing out people with fake academic papers. Possession of a fake certificate already landed popular musician and Balaka North parliamentarian Lucius Banda in jail. The 14 were among 19 employees whose certificates were allegedly fake after a vetting process of both the MSCE and JCE belonging to 375 employees of the hotel chain. Maneb executive director Mathews Matemba confirmed the arrests but said police are yet to apprehend the remaining five because some of them are on leave while others are at large after they got wind of the raid. The Orissa Higher Education Department has decided to organise Certificate adalats in all the district headquarters on February 28 next year for distribution of pre-university and degree certificates to pass- out students who have not collected their certificates for decades. Higher Education Minister Samir Dey told that the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and the nine universities have been directed to send all pass certificates including those uncollected ones to colleges by December 31. The colleges have been instructed to send those certificates that have remained uncollected to an identified nodal college of their district where the proposed Adalat
The Bihar government has cancelled the recognition of 471 of the state`s 650 intermediate colleges to check and control the increasing influence of the education mafia, officials said. Bihar Intermediate Education Council chairman Nageshwar Sharma confirmed that the 471 colleges were derecognised after it was detected that most of them were fake or existed only on paper. The council is the state`s apex body for intermediate education, which decides the fate of hundreds of students. The council has cancelled the recognition of these intermediate colleges with immediate effect, said Sharma. The body plans to release a list of genuine colleges

Competing with more than 1500 students from 45+ countries at Indias largest science fair held in December 2006, the Indian contingent comprising of national IRIS winners bagged 8 awards among 14 scientific project categories at the international fair.
The third batch of Judge Advocate General (JAG), Army Headquarters, Delhi were awarded certificates in White Collar Crime investigation in Forensic Science at the Amity Institute of Behavioural Health & Allied Sciences (AIBHAS), New Delhi today. The certificates were awarded by Lt. Gen. M.G. Girish, DG (Discipline, Ceremonial & Welfare), Army Headquarters, South Block, New Delhi to the officers who successfully completed the three- week training programme (November 16- December 6, 2004).

While admitting that mushrooming of fake universities was a matter of great concern, the UGC reiterated that the identified institutions were not established as per Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and so did not have the right to issue degrees.
