Education loan to come easy

Getting an education loan or for that matter, a loan to repair your home from a bank will be easier now. This is because RBI, in a set of draft guidelines, has granted priority sector status to loans for education, house repairs, micro credit, and small scale industries, among others.

Priority sector as defined in banking circles are areas that RBI wants banks to promote and lend up to 40% of what is possible on loan books. The RBI circular states that loans up to Rs 10 lakh granted to individuals for studying in India and Rs 20 lakh for studies abroad will qualify for priority sector lending.
