Jamia MCRC to launch own website
Taking a cue from journalism schools abroad, Jamia Millia Islamias much acclaimed Mass Com¬munication and Research Centre (MCRC) will soon host its website independent of the varsitys. The aim of the website is to facilitate direct interaction between prosp-ective employers and students.
According to MCRC professor Obaid Siddiqui, the website will act as a placement cell. Achievements of the students will be displayed for easy selection by prospective employers. An independent website is an old concept for journalism schools abroad. Our aim is to make it student as well as industry-friendly, he added.
Resumes of all the students will be uploaded on the site, prospective employers can then easily access and recruit students. The website will also display projects and production work done by students. This will also benefit other students,he added.
Films, documentaries and advertisements made by the students will be uploaded on the website. We are planning to put radio Jamia programmes as a package on the website. An e-magazine is also being planned, which will serve as a forum for those interested in writing, explained Siddiqui, adding that the initiative will mainly benefit print-Journalism students in getting hands-on training. The magazine will be fortnightly and will promote online journalism too. Eventually, we will make it weekly, he said.
Making it more interactive, MCRC plans to host debates on relevant issues through the website for which experts and students from outside the university will also be invited to post their comments and participate in discussions. The website will be a kind of blog, where people from any field will be allowed to participate and comment on the topics posted on the websites, said MCRC director Iftekhar Ahmad, adding that the portal will serve as a window for people outside to take a peek into the talents of students within the centre.
