USIS in education exchange programme

With the advent of globalisation the world has become fused. And with that students in India are making the maximum of educational opportunities available in the United States of America. Students from Kolkata, too, are all gung-ho to try their luck with the letters in USA. To help them fulfil their dreams, the American Center organised the International Education Week from November 13 to 17.

With a variety of programmes lined up for the benefit of the students the week was today inaugurated by the US Consul-General, Henry V Jardine. Reading out the statement of the US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, regarding the Education Week 2006, Jardine, said: The International Education Week provides schools, universities, communities, non-profit organisations and business houses across the United States and abroad the opportunity to recognise and encourage international educational exchange.

He said more than 5,50,000 students from around the world study in the United States each year, while nearly 2,00,000 Americans study in other nations. Indians still lead the number of students pursuing higher studies in the United States.
