Video conferencing, a distance learning solution
The teacher might be in Buck Lake, but that doesnt necessarily mean the students are.
A Wetaskiwin Regional Public School pilot project graduated its first class of video conferencing students. Buck Mountain Central high school teacher Fred Frank taught not only his chemistry 30 class, but the chemistry 30 students at Pigeon Lake Regional school.
The board of WRPS learned the ins and outs of teaching by video conferencing from Frank and teaching assistant Betty Alberg, who worked with the students in Pigeon Lake.
Its always been the boards decision to have teachers in the class, but unfortunately in smaller schools, it is not always viable, explained Paul Mason, WRPS director of instruction.
