Unesco apologises to India for observation on children in conflict
Acting on Indias strong protest, the Unesco has apologised for an observation by one of its officials that children aged below 15 years were involved in armed conflict in the country.
We strongly refuted (the claim) that children under 15 years are engaged in armed conflict and questioned the authenticity of the report. We did get an apology and they said they will rectify (the matter), Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari told reporters here today.
During a presentation on the global monitoring report 2007: strong foundations - early childhood care and education by Nicholas Burnett, the Director of Unescos global monitoring report team for education for all made an observation that children below 15 years were involved in armed conflict in India.
