Nigeria: US-Based Nigerian Launches Scholarship Scheme

A US-based Nigerian scientist, Dr Charles Olaiya has established a scholarship fund for students from Nigeria. Known as Alice Fayemi Olaiya Scholarship Foundation Award, it will be administered by his alumnus, the Central University of Missouri (CUM), in the US. Beneficiaries include, African Americans from the inner cities, who are unable to access higher education due to lack of funds.

Olaiya, who works with the US Department of Energy, named the scholarship after his mother, Mrs Alice Olaiya. He lost his father at the tender age of six and was raised by his mother and family members, who he said gave him the encouragement and funds to pursue his education in the US.
