Grant to boost BOCES distance learning

An opportunity for some rural students to see the world will be provided by a grant to the Otsego Northern Catskills Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

The $338,971 in funding from the U.S. Department of Agricultures Rural Utility Services grant will be used by BOCES with six schools in the district, as well as its two occupational centers in Grand Gorge and Milford, to improve distance-learning, ONC BOCES Superintendent Marie Wiles said.

It will allow schools to access a whole world of possibilities, including video conferencing and virtual field trips to such places as the San Diego Zoo or the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, she said.
