Priests who marry minor girls to be punished

Lawmakers are in the process of approving new legislation that would slap priests who marry teenagers with jail terms and fines.

Despite laws prohibiting marriage for women younger than 18 and men under age 21, such unions are common in India.

On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha, or upper house of Indias Parliament, approved the legislation, its website said.
