Shoppers give boost to scholarship fund

Escambia County students made more than $1 a minute Saturday during the first two hours of a gift-wrapping fundraiser at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Pensacola.

The event, which lasted six hours, collected $121.42 in two hours and was designed to raise money for the Take Stock in Children program. About $270 was raised by the end of the day.

The program, in its 11th year, awards 15 to 20 scholarships a year. Students receive a two-year scholarship to a community college and a two-year scholarship to a four-year university.
