IGNOU to launch courses for rural youth
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is all set to launch few Diploma courses for the unemployed rural youth to help them train as agricultural entrepreneurs.
The courses are likely to be launched in January 2007; it will train the youth in clean milk production, processing of milk, milk products, hygienic and wholesome production of meat, processing of meat and meat products. A total of 18 study centres have already been set up to impart education through distance mode in cities like Pune, Anand, Ranchi and Vellore.
The Director of Open Universitys School of Agriculture (SOA) Prof. B.S. Hansra said, The impact of agricultural education through distance mode will soon be seen contributing to development of new breeds of entrepreneurs, increased employment opportunities, higher earnings and better work environment. This will help ensure poverty alleviation and livelihood security and sustainable productivity to change the quality of life, especially in rural areas.
