New scholarship fund for at-risk youths tops $100,000 mark
A scholarship fund started about three months ago in honor of retired Communities in Schools executive director Cynthia Marshall already has surpassed $100,000, directors of the organization announced earlier this month.
Were delighted that the response has been so generous, although we had a feeling it would be, said Bill Jeffries, president of the Communities in Schools board of directors. This is a tribute to all that Cynthia Marshall has meant to our organization and to the children of this community.
Marshall, who founded Communities in Schools in Mecklenburg County in 1985, retired as executive director Aug. 1.
