Agricultural growth should be at par with that in other sectors: Ex-RBI governor

THE UPCOMING 11th Plan will draw up specific strategies for the much-needed improvement of agricultural growth rate in the country, said C Rangarajan, chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. According to him, though India had registered an eight per cent real growth rate, it was necessary to deal with hindrances in agricultural growth.

While India grew eight to nine per cent in general, the growth rate in the agricultural sector has just remained four per cent which is not enough when 60 per cent of the population is dependent on that sector. For better prospects in the 11th Plan, we require to address region and crop-specific problems, he said.
