ICAI launches insurance scheme, study circlesICAI launches insurance scheme, study circles The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has launched a Group Insurance Scheme for its members and their spouses. In this, regard, the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund of ICAI signed an agreement with the Life Insurance Corporation of India. In addition to this, the Council has decided to promote weekly study circles for continuous professional learning among students. Select members would guide students while eminent resource persons will address them.

Ip Day Celebrated The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day on April 26. ICAI has been encouraging innovative talent and has been endeavouring to promote education of all the potential actors in the IPR regime, said Sunil Talati, president, ICAI. He stated that IPR has become very important and ICAI has already taken a series of measures ranging from organising seminars, bringing out publications, issuing discussion reports on various issues confronting accounting fraternity, apart from launching a specialised Post Qualification Course in International Trade Laws and WTO.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced a number of measures to update examination and training. Now candidates can register for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) after clearing 10th boards as compared to the existing scheme where they could only register after their 12th board result. The CPT exam will now be an objective paper of 200 marks and will be held once in three months across the country. Earlier, the CPT exam was held once in six months. Source Times of India Date 2006-08-08 Information The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is planning to introduce a common proficiency test (CPT) (similar to CET for professional course students) for the entry to the chartered accountancy course from September this year, according to T N Manoharan, president, ICAI, New Delhi. The first CPT test will be held on November 12, for which a draft scheme of the new curriculum has been notified by the Government of India. The entire CPT will be objective type for 200 marks. Nigeria: US-Based Nigerian Launches Scholarship Scheme A US-based Nigerian scientist, Dr Charles Olaiya has established a scholarship fund for students from Nigeria. Known as Alice Fayemi Olaiya Scholarship Foundation Award, it will be administered by his alumnus, the Central University of Missouri (CUM), in the US. Beneficiaries include, African Americans from the inner cities, who are unable to access higher education due to lack of funds. Aptech, has Inaugurated a state-of-the-art training centre in Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia ICAI seeks waiver The Delhi-based Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has asked the Ministry of Human Reource Development to make commerce a part of the curriculum from Class VIII. ICAI is also negotiating with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to exempt PE-II/PCE-pass students from taking certain papers in the latters commerce programme. The institute is in talks, seeking the waiver, with other universities as well. Many universities already consider the CA qualification as equivalent to a postgraduate qualification to do a doctoral programme.

IGNOU to start special B.Com, M.Com for CA students Indira Gandhi Open University, IGNOU, plans to soon launch a specialised B.Com. programme with majors in Accountancy and Finance for Chartered Accountancy (CA) students, who will be exempted from taking certain common subjects. Exam Rescheduled The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will conduct its Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on August 26, 2007, since it was not conducted as per schedule on August 5, due to leakage of the paper. All students who were issued admit cards for the August 5 CPT exam, will be eligible to appear for the same on August 26, and will be issued fresh admit cards without any further payment of fee.
