Education Ministry To Build 6 New Primary Schools, Upgrade Another 12
The Education Ministry plans to build six new primary schools and upgrade 12 existing ones as part of the move to make class sizes smaller to help teachers work better.
Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced these plans at Rosyth Schools 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday.
He said this also meant single sessions for more schools as well, so teachers and students can have the afternoons free for enrichment programmes.
New classrooms, computer laboratories and libraries will also be added to the 12 existing schools as upgrades.
The new schools are slated to be completed by 2008. The estimated cost is $110 million.
Mr Tharman also spoke to reporters about the casino issue.
He said the casino question was not a pure, black and white issue.
It is about how Singapore can become a leading world city, and yet can be rock solid in its core values.
