St Andrews Scots, IP Extn holds winter carnival

St Andrews Scots Sr Sec School, IP Extn held a winter carnival, inaugurated by chief guest Shashi Bhushan (HOD, Edusat and vocational) CBSE along with the guest of honour J P Shourie, ex-controller of exams, NCERT, principal P L Rana and the members of the managing committee. The Bishop of St Peter’s Marthoma church Rev Father Sabu Phillip blessed the gathering. On this occasion, Indian folk and western dances, skits and a fashion show were presented. Narendra Chanchal, Qayoom Wadera and R J Mehak of ‘Dilli di mehak’ added to the excitement. Students scoring above 90% in the class X were presented cheques of Rs 10,000. Nikhil Gupta and Swati Kashyap of class X were given special awards for getting certificates from CBSE for being 0.1% successful candidates to score the highest marks in Maths (cent percent) and English (95%). Four award winning teachers were honoured. Release of school magazine and a presentation on Jesus Christ by Mr Mason of USA were also held. DPS, Rohini celebrated its sports day on Nov 19.The occasion was graced by Delhi education minister A S Lovely. Ashok Chandra, chairman, DPS Society and Pramod Grover, chairman, DPS Rohini Managing Committee presided over the function. School principal Rita Sen, gave the welcome address. The games captain led the houses in the oath taking ceremony. The children displayed drills, dances and aerobic activities. The winners of zonal, state and national level competitions were felicitated by the chief guest.

Students of Ramakrishna Sr Sec School, Vikaspuri exhibited their mathematical skills through a variety of models on Dec 23. I P Aggarwal, chairman, Triveni Educational and Social Welfare Soiety was the chief guest. He was welcomed by school principal Mamta Aggarwal. S K Bhatia, educationist; Avnish Kumar, principal, Govt Boys Sr Sec School and A P Sharma (academic advisor) judged the models. Kriti Dhiman (IV-A), Divyangna 5harma (IV-A), Princy Gupta (X-B), Pradeep Sandhu (X-B), Deekshant & Deepak (IX B), Ashish Sachdeva & Gaurav Chopra (Xll-A), Lianmuankim (Xl-A) & Roma (XI-B),Chirag & Prashant (X-B), Yash Aggarwal and Saurabh Dhooper (X-B) received first prizes in various categories.

Queen Mary’s School, Rohini celebrated its annual day on Oct 28.The Rt Rev Bishop Karam Masih, Bishop Delhi Diocese, CNI was the chief guest. S C Vats, chairman, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies and legislators Shakur Basti and Kulwant Rana were guests of honour. A show was presented by the kinder garten section.

Sumermal Jain Public School, Janakpuri
held a New Year’s celebration programme on Jan 2 which coincided with the 60th birthday of school chairman K L Jain. The highlights of the programme were songs, dances and distribution of sweets among the staff and students. The chairman announced the addition of 60 new annual scholarships in the name of his mother Indra Devi. Happy Sr School, Kirti Nagar bagged the team championship trophy in the inter-school martial arts competition held at St Michael Sr Sec School. The school won 11 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze medals. JKD grandmaster of India, S L Gihara presided over the competition. The managing director Umesh Ghai appreciated the students and martial art coach Vikas Gihara.

Venkateshwar International School celebrated its sixth annual prize distribution function on Dec 30. The chief guest Sahib Singh Verma gave away the prizes to scholars, sports persons and students. The programme commenced with him inaugurating the Ch Jeet Ram Memorial Auditorium -state of the art auditorium. Jazz, Japanese, Scottish and Arabian dances, a French song and a classical Hindi prayer song were some of the highlights. School principal Mrinalini Kaura presented the annual report. School chairman Rajpal presented a memento to the chief guest.

Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Naraina celebrated its annual day on Dec 8. The function was inaugurated by sports supervisor Gulab Singh Gahlot. All the PTA members, VKS members and Maha Singh, vice-principal, GBSS, Naraina were present on this occasion. The school magazine ‘Disha’ was launched. The students presented various cultural programmes. School principal Amarjeet Kaur Sawhney presented the school’s annual report. The guests gave away prizes to the meritorious students. School vice-principal Neena Malhotra thanked all the guests.

The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj celebrated its annual function ‘Spandan 2006’ at the Siri Fort Auditorium on Dec 24. Chief guest Barry John, director, IMAGO theatre group lit the ceremonial lamp. School principal Rita Kaul welcomed the guests and introduced the theme of the function ‘Navras’.The theme envisioned bychairman N C Jain focussed on the emotional and spiritual development of students.
