Active Schools Going the Distance

PUPILS throughout Aberdeenshire have been benefiting from sportscotlands Active Schools programme, with statistics showing an increase in sessions and participation.

Physical activity and sport sessions in schools across Scotland have jumped by 53% at primary level, and 17% overall, in the last two years since Active Schools was launched with £12 million per annum of backing from ministers.

Around 6,500 sessions have been held throughout Aberdeenshire, which include a number of various opportunities from increasing physical activity, creating links with partners to address health issues, working to address other agendas (such as Health Promoting schools), and raising additional funds for school networks.
