Online Classes Offer EMS Students Flexibility
An online curriculum at Eastern Mennonite Seminary sounds like a song by Bette Midler.
The pop divas 1990 hit, From a Distance, could also be the name of a 10-year-old program that lets people with busy lives study theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. Thanks to the Internet, EMS now offers 13 courses toward a certificate in theology.
The off-campus program, called distance learning, gives students with domestic obligations a chance to study courses at the seminary. The program that featured just one course in 1997 now includes a computer software program called Blackboard, which includes a discussion board that permits instructors to post course outlines and assignments.
